MALPRACTICES OF TEACHERS

MALPRACTICES OF TEACHERS

Teachers are branded as molders or builders of good Filipino values in shaping our people to become a better individual. An individual who acts according to the commandments of God and according to what is right & proper. An individual who mirror himself as a  good living example.
In the realm of education, we are mandated to teach values education to our students. The purpose of which is not only to instill & inculcate but rather live these values for them to become better individuals. We constantly find solutions to the extreme attitudes or behaviors of our students nowadays. However, there is one big question that bothers me always, how can we effectively & firmly impose these good values if malpractice of teachers are marked by menacing wildness in our society. If our teaching does not even manifest our own actions.
The Department of Education has been imposing a protocol in hiring teachers. Applicants will be rated & ranked according to their standards. Hired teachers are marked to be the best among the rest but why has it become a public knowledge that the one who makes it on the top of the ranking does not even get immediately the item. It has become a puzzle for me that those who don’t even make in the ranking amazingly get the items.
Quality education is the topmost objective of the department. To attain quality education, we should hire quality teachers with field of expertise or specialization. How can we have an assurance of quality education if we allow them to teach a subject which is not his field of expertise or specialization?
The department is conducting an annual assessment to all the students both in public & in private in order to measure & to evaluate the learning of the students.
How can we then prove the authenticity of the result if the proctors providing answer to he examinees? Why we should be afraid of knowing the real scores of the students? Does it really affect the level of performance as teachers? Or we are just afraid to be discovered that we are not effective & efficient teachers.
Quality learning should be given and provided to all the students. Students should not of course be deprived by the high quality of learning. How could we possible provide & give high quality of learning if only above-average students are only given special attention. If & only then the above-average students can use the computers or gadgets in learning. If & only then, the above-average students are provided quality teachers.
These are just few of the malpractices of teachers in our society. These scenarios are impairing the visions of our people. This is degrading and embarrassing practices or our teachers thus ruin the good image of teachers in our society. We could not lead the people in the paradigm of righteousness if our teaching of good values does not manifest our own actions.
We need to have a great CHANGE in the educational parlance. A true change should start from us. We need to stick on the rules & procedures, strictly follow the standards & implement fair & quality education for all without any elasticity at all.

PROPOSED ACTIONS ON TEACHERS’ MALPRACTICES

To restore & dignify the name of the Department of Education, the agency should take actions on the malpractices of teachers. These are the proposed solution on the existing demeaning scenarios on malpractices.
1.       The department should firmly strengthen the values education to teachers.
2.       Provide a website for comments, suggestions & recommendations & these things should be given immediate proper actions.
3.       Provide suggestion boxes to all institutions wherein the students & parents are given the chance to express their opinions, comments, suggestions or even recommendations.
4.       Post a disclosure board in every schools on the following matters:
  •     Protocol of hiring applicants
  •     Results of the screening with corresponding scores from the panelist
